Forty years ago!!!!!! a very creative friend was into fabric dying and Tricia Legg was learning how to embroider. They got together one weekend and created this vest. The deal was that they would each own and wear it for 6 months of the year but then they both put on weight and moved 7 driving hours away from each other.
Oh dear, but a knock at the door yesterday, and there she was, long forgotten vest in hand, much thinner, as was Tricia. And it fitted both of them! After hugs and a sumptuous shared lunch they of course had to have a fashion parade, and they both still loved it.
But here is the coincidence. Tomorrow, Tricia is helping another dear friend create memories with fabric too. Her Mum made a quilt for her father many years ago. Both have since passed, the quilt was retrieved and it is about to be remade into a very stylish, very modern jacket. As my friend said, “It will be like getting a big warm hug from my Mum every time I wear it.” Magic!
Not sacrilege but textile art evolving for a younger generation’s different tastes and needs. And yes, Tricia almost has a ‘hug coat’, made in 2004, using her Mum’s old dresses to create an elegant winter jacket.
