Who Knew a Sweatshirt Could Do This
Who says you need dressmaking skills to create wearable textile art? Start with an oversized bargain-bin sweatshirt, follow the instructions with this brilliantly designed kit, and before you know it you’re wearing something that nobody else in the world owns. It’s one of the easiest and most exciting ways to discover just how creative you really are.
This isn’t just another sewing project either. It could be your first step into Clothing Into Art. It’s beginner-friendly, surprisingly addictive, and enormous fun. You will also need a ‘charm pack’ which is a term for a collection of 5-inch by 5-inch precut fabric squares, usually bundled in sets of 30 to 42. It is not included.

Of course being me (Tricia Legg,) after the trauma of dissecting the sweatshirt into it’s various parts and then being pleased that if everything went wrong, it was only $12, I carried on and it all worked! What you are seeing in the images is my version with some embroidery added as an extra layer, and a bit of adaption around the hem.
The sleeves are reattached eventually and left plain as is the back, a zip added, and before long you will have a really warm, unique garment.
