Your Art Plus An Unused Vest
Looking for a clothing into art project that welcomes both experienced quilters and those just beginning their appliqué journey? This creative challenge is designed for all skill levels but here’s the thing. There’s no kit to follow and no design to copy. This project will be all about you. You’ll be guided by Tricia Legg, working step by step to develop your own unique appliqué artwork on a commercial vest. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore your creativity, build confidence, and create a truly personal wearable piece.
After 55 years making clothes, this vest pictured was actually Tricia’s very first project adding art to clothing. As a appliqué beginner, she had experienced mentors who taught her about fabric choices, machine sewing techniques available to her on her own humble sewing machine, the ‘sticky stuff’ which made the process so much easier, and the process itself. As a experienced art teacher, Tricia will also guide you though your individual design considerations, that is achievable, personal and meaningful.
It is this knowledge that Tricia will pass on to you with this online course. Using zoom live which is also recorded if you can’t make it live or want to watch again, you will have the huge advantage of enrolling from anywhere in the world, yet seeing how others in the class are going. You get to talk to Tricia, ask the questions and be inspired, but working on your own machine, in your own space, in your own time. Perfect.
This online class starts July 10th 2026
This is an interactive, course with six LIVE sessions using zoom over 6 weeks so you have plenty of time to work through each stage. They are recorded so you are able to review the lessons and look at them over and over. You will receive one-on-one evaluation during each step and your question will be answered. If you can not keep up the pace, each lesson will be recorded so you can work around your other commitments.
We work in New Zealand dollars. The usual price for the workshop is $NZ199 (approximately $US115, €98, £86) If you register before January 1st 2027 the price is $NZ 189. Participant numbers are strictly limited.
You will need A plain vest , if it has a small logo it will be hidden, cotton fabric, the amount of which will be determined by your unique design, ordinary sewing machine , usual sewing kit and heat activated, fusible web or similar designed for applique work. More about those in the first lesson.
