Using AI to your advantage

AI! You either love it or hate it but you can use it as part of an incredible time saving piece of magic during your design process. Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could determine if a design you have in your head will actually look ok, or incredible awful. AI will help you find that out, sooner rather than later… and it takes about 30 seconds.

A case in point… I recently brought a piece of material, floral, bold and tropical. I thought it would be a great starting point for a summer coat. I fed a picture of the fabric into AI software to see how it would look. Well it looked worse than awful! Hideous came to mind! And you can do the same thing if you have a great and unique design you think would look AMAZING on a recycled piece of clothing.

In the online workshop with me (Tricia Legg) that starts on 18th April 2026 https://clothingintoart.com/embellish-a-vest/ the first lesson of the six will show you how to use AI so you can actually see your design “in real life” on a model before you even make the first cut into your chosen applique fabric. You will be able to change anything you like and print off your final version as a reference before you start actually making your masterpiece. Bliss!

And just to finish, the cartoon of me at the start of this blog was also made with AI, and wouldn’t it be fun if you could make one too, to use on your social media. So embrace AI, make it work for you and you will never look back.
