Testing, Testing

Test, test, test

You have your top/blouse/dress that you want to refresh with your own wicked design. Yes? Obviously I will show you how with the online workshop https://clothing-into-art/refurbish-a-top/ BUT there is this word (or is it words being as garrulous as I am!) and the word is TEST.

What did I discover this morning when I was doing just that for a casual kimono I am making, using viscose fabric. On an iron setting of linen… it melts! So pleased I was, using a sample. The same word applies to deciding on the media you use to embellish your piece. How does it react to dye? fabric paint? waterproof pens? Ironed on a hot hot setting to set one of the medium, can you predict what happened ? Of course you can!

That immediately sorted out any that needed heat to set. And then test again I did, for washing. Using my normal cold water and suitable detergent to wash all the samples, did any shrink? run? stand the test?

So now I know what to use, and this afternoon I will start painting. With the paint dry in a day or so, out will come the machine for some free hand embroidery, and I plan to go wild. That is the next fun part. Ready to join me on May 30th? See you there.
