Fabric Painting

Fabric painting is fun and it looks easy, right? Well to be fair, it is, but why reinvent the wheel if someone can guide you through all the pitfalls. That is what Tutor Tricia Legg has been doing this week in preparation for the online workshop https://clothingintoart.com/refurbish-a-top/ If you are refurbishing a garment using fabric paint, you are likely to be considering polyester based clothing as your starting point. You need to find out how your material reacts to heat, as most fabric paint is heat set, how it will wash, as it may bleed or run, will the paint come through to the other side etc. etc. Tricia has been also testing the ‘inktense’ brand of coloured pencils so within the first lesson in the workshop you will see the test results as well as how coloured sharpies, dye, and fabric paint performed. She has also been testing the effect of free motion machining on single layered fabric and the use of interfacing. As this will be part of the first lesson, you will then become armed and ready to start decorating your chosen garment, with your own design, without unthought of disasters waiting to pounce. Contact Tricia directly at clothingintoart@gmail.com if you would love to register your interest.
